Why Diets Don’t Work

You've tried multiple diets.

You lost weight but then regained it.
Now you weigh more than you did before you dieted.

How can this be?
You feel disappointed and demoralized.

We all have heard that dieting doesn't work in the long run and yet we keep seeing all of these diets. How is it possible that dieting doesn't work? It doesn't make sense!

And yet, I was shocked to learn that research so far says it is sadly true.

One large study that looked at all of the top long-term studies (over 50 studies!) on weight loss summarized the results like this:

It appears that dieters who manage to sustain a weight loss are the rare exception, rather than the rule. Dieters who gain back more weight than they lost may very well be the norm, rather than an unlucky minority.

And yo-yo dieting actually causes more harm than good. Many studies have shown that people who gain and lose weight over and over again have higher rates of mortality (meaning they die sooner than they would have). (1)

The problem is that we so badly want to lose weight so we get sucked into gimmicks and quick fixes or we might be reasonable and try good old-fashioned calorie restrictive diets and yet....the weight comes back.

And it's not your fault, it really does make sense that you would go on a diet, you would lose weight, and you would keep it off.

But that is not the case for most people.

It looks like we have been tricked by the diet industry!

They want us to believe that you just have to work harder or find that magical formula or the right supplement and all of your problems will be fixed. Of course, it's alluring!!

So if dieting doesn't work, how do we lose weight and KEEP IT OFF?

It may not be what you think.

Diets

The real problem is that we think of diets as a thing that we go on.

And exercise is the thing we do to be healthy.

We have the thinking all wrong. Of course, we have been trained to think this way, so again, it's not our fault.

What if the real problem is that the act of dieting alone causes an unhealthy relationship with food and with your body?

What if the real problem is that dieting makes you miserable and obsessed with food, and also makes it harder and harder to lose weight?

What if the answer was to completely stop dieting and start approaching the problem strategically? Wouldn't that be a relief?

Let's stop pretending that "yet another diet" is the answer when it is actually THE PROBLEM!

My mission for my life is to help women get off of that awful, miserable dieting treadmill and to get on with feeling good, being healthy, and losing weight WITH EASE.

The alternative to dieting is to enjoy your food and take care of your body.

This does not come from an outside source telling you how you should look or what “healthy” means for you.

It comes from within. It comes from practicing self-love.

When you love yourself you want to give your body the nutrients it requires. When you practice self-love eating well is a given.

Best diets

And don’t worry if you don’t know what it means to “practice self-love”. It is not something that comes naturally to most humans.

We have to develop it just like any other habit. And our program does just that. We help you to develop the habit of self-love, which leads to what we call, “deep self-care”.

This is the alternative to dieting. This is where you do it for YOU, not for anyone else. And you do it gently, lovingly, peacefully, and patiently.

This is the paradigm we are establishing and we have created a journey that we travel on together with you. We are there as guides and a source of knowledge but you are in the driver’s seat. You won't be alone. Because we know you have suffered and there is trauma from all of the dieting and shame.

This may sound like a bunch of high and lofty ideas but when put in practice these ideas are completely freeing and pleasurable.

There is a strategic and methodical protocol for practicing self-love and deep self-care. Left to our own devices, most of us will not take the time to really lovingly care for ourselves.

We need a plan and we need accountability to stay on track until it becomes habitual.

Since this is my life’s work I have implemented the knowledge and experience to create a three-step system that will help you stop dieting and start practicing self-love and deep self-care so that you can improve your health, lose weight gradually, and actually ENJOY THE PROCESS.

The three phases we use include:

Step 1 Slow Down - Commit to practicing self-love and deep self-care, and tap into your body wisdom.

Step 2 Supercharge - Add superfoods and lifestyle practices that nourish your body and mind and that you enjoy.

Step 3 Sustain - Develop a pile of healthy habits that make the whole thing sustainable.

The WYN Program can help you step into a completely different paradigm.

We operate from a context that is essentially the exact opposite of the typical dieting world.

Where they promote fear, we promote love. Where they force restrictions, we encourage body wisdom. Where they rely on dogma, we personalize the approach for your needs and your body. Where they coerce and blame, we support you with loving compassion and healthy responsibility.

It’s a different world and I invite you to join us where it’s fun and pleasant….and most importantly, SUSTAINABLE.
